4.21.2010 - Awesome Again Filly Tops Adena Two-Year-Old Sale

Bahia Beach topped the ninth annual Adena Springs sale of 2-year-olds in training, bringing $115,000 April 18 in Central Florida. Tommy and Bonnie Hamilton’s Kentucky-based Silverton Hill operation purchased the gray or roan daughter of Awesome Again.

Bred in Kentucky, Bahia Beach is out of the 10-year-old winning Alphabet Soup   mare Pop Princess, a half-sister to 2008 Rampart Handicap (gr. II) winner Spring Waltz (by Silver Charm). Bahia Beach’s second dam, Relaxing Rhythm (by Easy Goer), captured the 1998 Molly Pitcher Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. II).

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. conducted the Adena Springs juvenile sale at Adena Springs South near Williston. Adena Springs owner Frank Stronach has won three Eclipse Awards (1998-2000) as outstanding owner, and his Stronach Stables was honored with an owner Eclipse in 2008. Stronach received an Eclipse Award as outstanding breeder in 2000, and Adena Springs won the breeder’s honor for five consecutive years (2004-2008).

Last year's sale topper, Stately Victor (by Ghostzapper) recently won the Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) to advance to the Kentucky Derby starting gate.

Hip #139 Platinum Jewel: This is a half sister to the recently crowned Canadian Horse of the Year, and Champion Sprinter, Fatal Bullet.  Fatal Bullet ran a very game second to Midnight Lute in the 2008 Breeders' Cup Sprint in his last start. Fatal Bullet is being pointed to the Grade 1 Malibu on Dec 26th in California.  Platinum Jewel is in foal for the first time to 2004 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Wilko who will have his first foals in 2009.
 
Hip #163 Storm Swirl: This is a half sister to the exciting 2yr old colt Capt. Candyman Can.  Since the catalog, Capt. Candyman Can ran 3rd in a blanket finish in the Grade 3 Kentucky Jockey Club stakes at Churchill.  He is a very exciting horse to watch, and he should find himself in the mix for the 2009 Kentucky Derby.  This mare is in foal for the first time to a full brother of the Horse of the Year and Champion colt Ghostzapper.  Aristocrat will have his first foals in 2009.
 
Hip #189 Don't You Worry: This is a half sister to the exciting 2yr old colt Skipadate.  Skipadate broke his maiden impressively first time out at Saratoga this summer.  He is now Graded stakes placed and has run in such premier stakes as the Grade 3 Delta Jackpot and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.  Don't You Worry is in foal to the leading Florida Second Crop sire Milwaukee Brew

Hip #201 Spider Flower: Spider Flower comes from a young stakes producing family.  Her half sister Sly Butterfly was purchased by Stonerside out of the Adena Springs Farm consignment if foal to Macho Uno for $410,000 at Keeneland November in 2007.  She has since been transferred to the ownership of Darley.  This mare is in foal for the first time to a full brother of the Horse of the Year and Champion colt Ghostzapper.  Aristocrat will be having his first foals in 2009.

Pleasant Thunder:  By a leading broodmare sire Thunder Gulch who is the sire of the dams of over 16 stakes winners.  Her ½ sister, Jeux de Danse, recently took the Copano Stakes at Calder.  Jeux de Danse now has updated earnings of over $220,000.  Jeux de Danse will be pointed to Graded Stakes at the upcoming meet at Gulfstream. Pleasant Thunder is in foal to Florida's leading 2nd-crop sire Milwaukee Brew.
